Put the message itself in the image

A text QR is useful for a short instruction, inventory label, or note that should be readable without opening a website. The payload is ordinary text rather than an access-controlled document.

Create and check it

  1. Write the exact text the recipient needs. Avoid secrets or information that should require authorization.
  2. Inspect the encoded-content panel for spelling, spaces, and punctuation.
  3. Download and scan the image. If it becomes too dense for the label, shorten the message or link to a page instead.

Anyone who can read the QR can read the message. A URL-looking message may still be interpreted as a link by some scanners. Text stored in a printed image cannot be changed later.

Troubleshooting this QR type

Long text will not generate
Shorten the payload. A QR has finite capacity; making the image physically larger does not increase that capacity.
A label has outdated instructions
Replace its image. For frequently changing instructions, use a stable web page.
