Create and troubleshoot a guest Wi-Fi QR code

What this tool supports

This generator creates a WPA-style Wi-Fi payload from a network name and password. It does not offer enterprise usernames, certificates, captive-portal login, or a hidden-network setting. If your network requires those, a simple guest QR card may not complete the connection.

Use the guest network name exactly as configured on the router. Capitalization and spaces are part of the value. Use a separate guest network when your router supports it, and decide who should be allowed to see the printed card.

A sample you can inspect

Suppose the guest network is Cafe;Guest and the example password is sample:123. The semicolon and colon inside those values must not become field separators. The generator escapes them when building the payload. Enter ordinary text in the form; do not add escape characters yourself.

The sample below illustrates the structure and is not a real network. The password remains readable to anyone who decodes the code.

Make and test the actual guest card

1. Enter the SSID and password in the Wi-Fi tool, then inspect the encoded-content panel.
2. Download the image and test with a device that is not already connected to that guest network. A device using saved credentials can mask a typo.
3. Confirm both the connection and internet access. A connection to the router alone does not prove that a captive portal or internet connection is working.
4. Print one sample with a label such as “Guest Wi-Fi — ask staff if you need help.” Test that physical sample at the expected viewing distance.

Handle password changes and local history

When you change the network password, generate a replacement image and remove old cards from every location. The old image continues to contain the old password; it cannot be updated remotely by this site.

A download records its payload, including the Wi-Fi password, in local history. On a shared computer, clear the relevant history entry when finished. Delete any saved project containing the old details too. Clearing history does not remove image files already downloaded or printed.
